The official Panini sticker collection for the 1998 FIFA World Cup in France comprises 561 stickers. As the eighth World Cup album since 1970 it accompanies the first tournament with 32 teams — previously 24 sides had competed for the title. It opens with three images of the trophy, the tournament emblem and mascot Footix, followed by the ten French venues; the finalists then line up with crest, team photo and squad. Collector's note: with the expansion to 32 finalists this album documents a World Cup field of the size that would hold until 2022 for the first time. Debutants such as Croatia, Japan, Jamaica and South Africa appear in a Panini World Cup series here for the first time — and Croatia promptly finished third at its first tournament as an independent nation. On the pitch it is the album of the French triumph: the hosts won the final against Brazil 3-0, with Zinédine Zidane scoring twice with his head.
